Privacy, Security And Climate Control

ANYTHING that keeps very young children in bed, asleep and comfortable for just that bit longer in the mornings has to be given consideration.
Andrew Gorman of Horsley was so pleased with the unexpected result after installing roller shutters on just a couple of the windows of his home, that he kept going.
``The kids' bedrooms are on the eastern side and the baby, in particular, would wake with the sun even though the blinds and curtains were drawn," he said.
``In the summer it can be really hot on that side of the house and we installed the shutters for heat control.
``But an offshoot is that the children now sleep much better and the baby doesn't stir until much later than his former 6am start - and that's beaut."
Mr Gorman said prior to the shutters and before lighting the fire, he and his wife would close all the curtains and blinds to stop heat escaping through the glass windows.
``But that's all in the past now that we have the shutters," he said.
``They worked so well on the eastern side of the house that we had them installed all the way around, and we are very pleased with our investment.
``The whole house is warmed much more quickly and we can put the fire out and the heat is retained."
The Modern Group shutters are custom-made at the company's manufacturing plant in Adelaide and assembled in Sydney.
Wollongong manager Gary May said shutters were becoming increasingly popular with Illawarra home owners as they offered climate control, privacy and security as well as saving money in energy costs.
